A Lovely, Quiet Town

Day 40 of the Trail: 10.2 miles hiked

Thomas and I were up and rolling by 7am this morning and had Damascus on the brain. We hiked about 6 miles before we even took a break and that was a short one. The hike in was easy and Damascus is a lovely quiet town. A large creek runs right through it and the homes here are beautiful. Everything is within walking distance and there is a Dollar Store for the frugal, a Food City for the resupply, and two different outfitters for gear issues. It's truly one of those quiet little towns you read in books, where small miracles happen or terrible creatures haunt, depending on the kind of books you read.

After settling in at the Woodchuck Hostel, where the owner has routinely given WH free stay, we took a closer measure of the town. We ate lunch at the local pizza buffet and then checked out the outfitters. We have plans to change some gear out but not just now. You could say we were window shopping. After that, it was back to the hostel for some relaxing until dinner. We heard about the local brewery and restaurant called Old Mill, which ended up being our dinner spot. It was nice and relaxing with good live music. Thomas and I met a nice fellow, named Charlie, who was an instant hit in our book. He was an all around cool guy with genuine good will. After dinner, it was back to the hostel for bed time. Tomorrow we will resupply, check out a couple more restaurants and take a full zero.
